Exfoliation
Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. This essential skincare step helps reveal fresher, more radiant skin underneath while improving skin texture and enhancing product absorption.
There are two primary exfoliation methods:
- Mechanical exfoliation uses physical scrubs, brushes, or tools to manually remove dead skin cells.
- Chemical exfoliation employs acids (like AHA/BHA) or enzymes to dissolve the bonds between skin cells.
Benefits include clearer pores, improved cell turnover, enhanced product penetration, and brighter complexion. However, over-exfoliation can damage your skin barrier, causing sensitivity and irritation.
For optimal results: exfoliate 1-3 times weekly (depending on skin type), use gentle pressure, always moisturize afterward, and apply sunscreen daily as exfoliated skin is more sun-sensitive.
