Drawing from observation teaches us to look at our surroundings in a whole new way. Start with simple still life objects at home like fruit or cups. The key is to look more than you draw - spend 70% observing and 30% drawing.
For beginners, try contour drawing - follow the edges of an object with your eyes while your hand creates corresponding lines on paper. Don't worry about perfection; focus instead on the process of seeing.
- Use basic supplies: pencils, paper, and eraser
- Draw for at least 10 minutes daily
- Start with simple shapes before complex objects
- Remember all artists were once beginners
The most important thing is consistency. Even short daily practice will develop your skills faster than occasional long sessions. Drawing is less about talent and more about training your eye and hand to work together.
Happy drawing!
