Fungal Nail Infection (Onychomycosis)

A fungal nail infection, known as onychomycosis, occurs when fungi invade the nail bed of either toenails or fingernails. This leads to nails becoming thickened, discolored, misshapen, and sometimes splitting. While often a cosmetic issue, untreated infections can cause toenails to grow so thick that they press against shoes, resulting in discomfort, irritation, and pain. Fungi flourish in warm, damp conditions, making these environments ideal for their growth.

Pre-Treatment Instructions

• Remove any nail polish before your appointment.
• Ensure skin is clean and free of products. Trim nails and use a nail brush to clean them.
• If there is hair around the nails, shave the area beforehand.
• Spray all shoes with an anti-fungal spray or disinfectant, and repeat weekly for at least four weeks.
• Avoid using topical anti-fungal creams or powders for two days prior to treatment.
• Bring sandals or an extra pair of socks to wear after your treatment.
